Hackney Gardens celebrates topping-out milestone

It was a fantastic day to celebrate Hackney Gardens topping-out milestone on site yesterday, to mark the completion of the structure at JJ Rhatigan’s new £17m mixed-use development.

The scheme is being delivered for Thornsett who is in partnership with St John at Hackney Church, with the project set in the gardens of the Grade II listed Church.

Hackney Gardens consists of a new build 4 storey building plus basement, accommodating 58 mixed tenure dwellings and community facilities, including nursery with a semi-public urban square and communal garden.

The residential component consists of a mix of one and two bedroom apartments and family houses with private gardens, split between three buildings. The new buildings are situated around a series of hard and soft landscaped squares and a new public link through to Mare Street. Early works involved demolition works and extensive archaeological digs of the existing churchyard with MOLA and Historic England.

The milestone was marked by a ceremony where Rector of Hackney, Revd Al Gordon made a blessing and poured a final section of concrete. He was watched on by the JJ Rhatigan site delivery team, key subcontractors and representatives from Thornsett, the client professional and design team and Hackney Church, followed by light refreshments at the Hackney Church Brew Co.
