Next generation of placemakers – Radharc na Mara Students helping to shape their local community at Crown Square

JJ Rhatigan & Company initiates community engagement through youth art installation on Crown Square hoarding.

Galway City, Ireland – The newly developed Crown Square Development in Mervue, Galway City, is set to become a hub for the local community, with amenities such as cafes, a food-hall, a walking track, a pharmacy, and a medical centre. To encourage collaboration and creativity among locals, the Rhatigan Group, the developer of Crown Square, has initiated a community engagement program. As part of this program, a hoarding installation has been created on the Crown Square Development on the Monivea Road, showcasing artwork produced by the talented primary school pupils from Radharc na Mara.

The theme of the artwork, titled ‘Great Artists’, promotes creativity and imagination within the community. It also highlights the new identity of Radharc na Mara, which is located in close proximity to the Crown Square Development. The artwork adds colour and vibrancy to the area, giving it a more inviting and inclusive feel.

The students were also given a tour of the Crown Square Development and had the opportunity to view a model of the finished project, giving them a glimpse of what the surrounding area will look like once completed and giving them the opportunity to share ideas for public realm uses. Public consultation and meaningful community engagement is a core part of successful development, and as a Galway-based company, it was considered particularly important by the JJ Rhatigan team to capture the views of young people and to give them a voice in shaping the future of their local area.

Keith Joyce, Principal of Radharc na Mara, commented on the collaboration, saying, “Like our school, the buildings signify a new beginning in a transitioning area. Radharc na Mara is looking forward to developing new relationships with the people and businesses who will be based at Crown Square.”

Padraig Daly, representing Crown Square Development, stated:

“We’re thrilled to support our community in this way and to collaborate with staff & pupils at Radharc na Mara to help inspire the next generation. This initiative supports Crown Square’s vision of creating an open campus environment that encourages collaboration and creativity within the community.”

The public is invited to visit the Crown Square Development on the Monivea Road to see the masterpieces and appreciate the students’ creativity. This is an opportunity to celebrate the power of art and community in the locality.
