JJ Rhatigan & Company has successfully won the contract for the construction of a new Poulfur Primary School. The new school will be built on the current school pitch which will allow for the school to continue as normal during construction. The two storey school will comprise of six mainstream classrooms, a P.E. Hall, Resource and Learning Support rooms, Staffroom, Library and various offices and ancillary rooms. The Special Needs complex will have four specially appointed classrooms, with associated withdrawal, sensory, OT and para educational facilities and a central general purpose area. A playground and a sensory garden will further enhance the experience of all pupils. This will ensure that the school remains a centre of excellence in the provision of education to children with special needs, particularly children with autism. Scoil Mhaodhóig Poulfur is the primary school which serves the Hook Peninsula.
