JJ Rhatigan & Company was first established in 1952 by the late John J Rhatigan who achieved a successful reputation in the construction industry in the early years, primarily for building schools and churches. One of the first buildings erected was the Ballymoe Church, Co. Galway.
Early contracts in the 1960’s included buildings such as the Milltown National School, Galway. Coming to the close of the 1960’s, the company had successfully established itself in the Education and Municipal sectors, progressing into the Leisure sector, with the construction of the Tuam Swimming Pool in 1969.
In the 1970’s these sectors grew substantially for JJ Rhatigan & Company, incorporating into their port folio such developments as, the Claregalway Church and St. Vincent de Paul, Saint Catherine LaBoure Hostel, Knock, Co. Mayo. This was subsequently followed by the Knock Apparition Church amongst other projects.
In the 1980’s JJ Rhatigan continued to develop a reputation for quality, consistency and stability. Projects grew in size, value and complexity with a diversification into the hotel sector, which led to the development of the Connemara Coast Hotel and works to the Connemara Gateway Hotel, Galway.
The foundations set between the 1950’s and 1980’s had established JJ Rhatigan and Company as a premier contractor in Ireland. This would help shape the company for the next three decades of expansion and growth to become one of Ireland's Leading Building Contractors.

In the 1990’s, the company diversified into a number of additional areas of construction, which included a portfolio consisting of hotels, leisure centres, healthcare facilities, municipal buildings, industrial, commercial and mixed residential developments, education facilities, local authority developments as well as the upgrading and reconstruction of existing buildings. JJ Rhatigan & Company launch new headquarters in Galway, as part of a mixed use project which consisted of a large Commerical and Residential development. The company aslo constructed a new office premises, Le Pole House, Ship Street, Dublin 2.2006 - Serving a Growing Irish Market
JJ R opened its official new premises in Sligo to serve the North and North West Region. This progesssion was in response to a strong growing market, which JJ Rhatigan & Cohad been servicing during the 1990's and into the millennium years.
2008 - Landmarks for the Future
JJR completed the construction of the Athlone Town Centre which opened its doors to thousands of shoppers in 2008. The 140,000 sq. m project comprises of a hotel, two shopping malls, covered square, retail, commercial and residential units. JJ Rhatigan & Company continue to build nationwide with a 48 month programme for an 80,000 sq.m commercial and Residential development, Heuston South Quarter Dublin which is currently in progress.J J Rhatigan & Company "set standards" in the speed and quality of their construction. This is consistent with the Rhatigan philosophy to complete contracts within, or ahead of schedule, with the minimum of fuss and to the highest standard.
