Setting Standards for over 50 years

Galway Mayo Institute of Technology

Client: Galway Mayo Institute of Technology
Architect: Murray O Laoire Architects
Contract value: €32m
Description:
This award winning development was designed to create a completely new presentation of the Galway Mayo Institute of Technology.

Complexities on this site included the interface with the existing structure and marrying of the different floor levels to match the existing buildings. Internally there was a strong emphasis on bare faced finished concrete on both precast and cast insitu elements.  A white concrete finish was provided to the central stairs.  Work on this prestigious project was completed on time and within budget to the satisfaction of both the Client and design team.
Key Features:
One of the main features of the building is the copper sails, which are constructed in such a manner   as to reflect the sails on a Galway Hooker.  Creating a structure to retain these sales was a complex piece of engineering which involved detailed co-ordination with Architects, Engineers, Contractors and Specialist Sub-contractors.  Other features of this building include the finish sto-render, stone cladding, complicated architectural panelling and curtain walling.
